I was watching the olympic game in television. I like some competitions but I hate sport chilean press; at least the people that transmit by television this games. Why?
I can not understand Why some chilean journalist show too much happiness and enthusiasm to people of the others countries. Why in Chile people would have to be happy with U.S. swimmer obtain 8 gold medals? Why chilean television press would have with a Russian girl that surpass her own record of jump with garrotxa??
Why celebrate people that even know about our country?
We could think in something as lack of national identity, but I Think that is just the opposite. I suppose that this fact could be explained whit a feeling that is importan part of chilean national identity: Desire of success.
Success is a very important word in the spirit of national culture in the present time. Then, is not strange that press television try to transmit the triumph of athletes to the others nation as if it were our. So far, each gold medals from countries like USA, China, Russia, and others developed nation is felt like our... at least, that is the image that television press show through cameras.
The desire of success in a country where a few people give importance to sport, in a place where less people practice some sport, is dificult to have a good athletes. And satisfactions of this desire that express in the sport, now, when the sport is sign of success, where to win is more than other time, sign of "to be the best".
I like wathc some competition, but i think that is not necessary identified with triumph of foreigners athletes for enjoing this games. I’m glad with the gold medals obtained by panamanian Irving Saladino, and silver medals that has been obtained by chilean Fernando Gonzales.
